Cybercrime has grown exponentially in Brazil in recent years. Initially targeting individuals, cybercriminals have for some time now been attacking financial institutions and payment systems, such as PIX, causing enormous losses. However, the activities of these criminals have diversified even further across different sectors of the economy, using sophisticated software and AI tools to break encryption systems and hack into corporate networks. Consequently, anticipating these trends and developing countermeasures has become a constant priority in business strategy, not least because cybercrime has long ceased to be the preserve of small groups: organised crime, with its infrastructure and financial muscle, has made this activity one of its most lucrative sources of income. And with the frequent technological leaps we have witnessed (many truly disruptive, such as quantum computing), combating this type of crime will certainly become even more critical for Brazil’s economy.
